Could you briefly tell us about Alpplas?
Tufan ÖNEY: Alpplas is a firm established in 1989 for plastic injection production, which has been continuing its activities for more than 20 years. Now, it is active in two areas. One is the production of plastic injection bits and the other is the production of electronic cards. We can define the main sectors we work with as the household appliances (white goods) and the automotive sector. We operate in two separate factories in Bolu and in Istanbul, with almost 400 personnel. We serve to many great companies such as Arçelik, Elektrolux, Bosch and Vestel.
Why did Alpplas seek ERPs?
Tufan ÖNEY: The most important reason we wanted to implement an ERP system was that we wanted to bring our units, which had been working on separate platforms without connections to each other, into a single system.
Having different programs for stocks, planning and accountancy created significant synchronization problems among units. After the implementation of caniasERP
, everything became much more organized.
Also, as the second main reason, I can add our desire to implement the actual costs accountancy.
How did you reach caniasERP during your ERP research and what were the reasons you decided on caniasERP?
Tufan ÖNEY: We met IAS firm in a technology fair. During that period, we were already in a search for an ERP. We were also negotiating with a company other than IAS but believed that, in terms of service quality, canias ERP would contribute us more, saw that their costs are much suitable according to the other firm and made our decision for caniasERP . Looking at where we are now, we again and again see that we have made the correct decision. We are very happy for using caniasERP .
What kinds of benefits has caniasERP brought to your firm after the implementation of ERP System?
Tufan ÖNEY: We activated caniasERP on a series of certain levels. The first one was the Accountancy Module. Then, Production Module gradually became activated. In accountancy most things are already based on standards but with canias ERP , our decision-makers now can access instantaneous data easily. This provided great benefits for us. Also, although it is an indirect benefit, I would like to add that during our implementation of caniasERP , we have updated all of our information. The data, which had been collected for years, were updated before being uploaded to the system. As I said, although it is an indirect benefit, it helped us make a significantly valuable update.
We are also using the Human Resources module actively but our most used module is the production planning module for now. This module is crucial for us and we perform everything related to production, over canias ERP
I am sure every company has its own improvement requests, so we did. However, our requests were pretty much hard to apply. For example, our purchase order letters change every day, and planning changes once or even twice a day. Therefore, there were significant improvements, made uniquely for us. At his point, canias ERP
's flexibility was very useful for us. Also, canias ERP
's software language TROIA is very easy to learn, and since it is an open resurce code system, you can easily solve minor improvements with your own IT team.
This is a great plus that also provides great comfort for a company. However, I believe that there is a thin red line here. If you, yourself make constant interventions on the program, and begin changing everything whimsically then you will lose control and may have to purchase a significant service of consultancy when you go for a version update sometime in the future. Therefore, I believe it is quite important to achieve a balance in between. Mentioning about this, I would like to add that we are very pleased with the consultancy service that we receive from IAS.
What are your goals on canias ERP in the future?
Tufan ÖNEY: Our primary goal is to upgrade to your new version, canias ERP
6.03. New developments are made, which would almost meet all of our demands. Also, I believe that we would increase our user number to 50 until end-2011.
It is hard for people to quit their habits, particularly in professional life. Have you faced any user resistances during the implementation of ERP system?
Tufan ÖNEY: At first, we really faced some serious resistance, and we even still face some of this resistance. As managers, we have strived to be guides for overcoming this process. So, we began to carry out our own work over the system. For example, when we needed to issue reports and these report were brought to us in Excel, we refused them and said "the only report correct for us is the report received over caniasERP
", and worked on directing individuals to use the program.
Taking your experiences into account, what would your recommendations be, for a firm that plans to implement the ERP system?
Tufan ÖNEY: I definitely recommend caniasERP
. The Program is very good but unless a company prepares itself to this transition, buying the program does not solve anything. First, they must clearly set the processes they would move forward with. Also they have to be determined.
